"Edip" is a student short film that critically examines contemporary habits of consuming screen-based media, contrasting them with the communal viewing practices of the past. The film challenges the solitary and passive nature of modern media consumption by integrating an interactive viewing experience: Edip only remains visually crisp when four or more viewers are present. As the audience diminishes, the film progressively blurs, becoming unwatchable when no one is present, though it continues to play regardless.
The project also critiques the marginalization of student films, particularly in Turkey, where they are often scheduled at the end of prestigious film festivals, resulting in dwindling audiences. Edip metaphorically embodies this neglect; even if no one watches, the film exists, but as an indistinct blur, questioning the value of unseen art and the relationship between viewer presence and artistic purpose.
